THE ABC MEDICAL CENTER RECEIVES ACCREDITATION FROM THE JOINT COMMISSION INTERNATIONAL (JCI) AS A WORLD CLASS HEALTH CENTER

The Centro Médico ABC announced it has been distinguished with accreditation from the Joint Commission International (JCI) for its Observatorio and Santa Fe campuses. This accreditation recognizes that the ABC applies the highest international standards in quality and safety for the care of its patients and brings the institution even closer to excellence in health service provision and administration.

On behalf of The Methodist Hospital in Houston, Methodist International would like to congratulate Centro Médico ABC for receiving certification by Joint Commission International. As the first hospital in Mexico City to achieve JCI certification, you have proven that patient safety and the delivery of quality health care is your true focus and one that sets you apart from all others in the region.

This recognition, given by the international branch of the North American body responsible for accrediting the most important health organizations in the United States and which has evaluated and accredited 220 medical centers and health programs in 33 countries around the world, establishes that the standards at the ABC Medical Center, and in particular those focused on improving quality and safety in patient care, meet the highest international standards.

After two years of intense efforts and the reengineering of its organizational culture and clinical and operative processes, the ABC underwent a detailed process of in situ evaluation whereby a team of JCI auditors evaluated facilities and processes at the ABC Medical Center as well as the work of doctors, nurses and administrative staff. This evaluation resulted in validation of the ABC’s mission and vocation.

In addition to recognizing the high quality standards of staff and clinical and operative processes at the ABC, JCI accreditation ratifies confidence in the safety standards offered in the areas of patient care, treatment and services. In addition it confirms the high quality offered by the ABC in the areas of administrative and risk reduction processes, best practices and recruiting, and development and staff training processes. Accreditation has been given for a period of three years, meaning that the ABC will go through this process once again in December 2011.

With reference to JCI accreditation, Christopher Baudouin, Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the ABC, announced that: “This recognition of our experience, vocation and constant efforts to achieve the highest standards of quality in the provision of medical services and patient care for the improvement of quality of life fills us with pride. This accreditation confirms that we are on the right track and can offer our patients medical services that are equal to those in the best hospitals in the world.”
