One of the largest and most rapidly evolving programs in the country, Methodist's Cancer Services was established in 1987 and is accredited by the American College of Surgeons' Commission on Cancer. Methodist is the second largest adult cancer provider in Texas. The Methodist Hospital was the first in the nation to offer Intensity Modulated Radiation Therapy (IMRT)-commonly known as Peacock radiation therapy-to attack tumors with pinpoint accuracy. The Breast Care Center at Methodist, in collaboration with the Baylor College of Medicine, is one of the few all-digital mammography facilities in the country and has a research component that is one of only eight recipients of the Breast SPORE (Specialized Program of Research Excellence) grant.
