The Methodist Hospital is a world-class, nonprofit hospital based in Houston, Texas. A legacy of medical milestones has attracted patients from around the world to The Methodist Hospital for more than 85 years. In 1996, The Methodist Hospital System was established to extend Methodist's health services beyond the Texas Medical Center and into communities throughout Houston.
U.S. News & World Report's 2005 "America's Best Hospitals" named Methodist among the country's top hospitals for heart and heart surgery, psychiatry, ophthalmology, otolaryngology, neurology/neurosurgery, gynecology, and urology. It is ranked in more specialties than any hospital in the state.
In addition, the Methodist Hospital System was recently named one of FORTUNE magazine's "100 Best Companies to Work For," making it the only health care system in Texas and one of only eight health care systems in the US to receive the prestigious distinction in 2006.
The Methodist Hospital was also awarded Magnet status for exceptional nursing, joining a small group of hospitals within the United States acknowledged for nursing excellence and superior patient outcomes.
The 2005 Most Wired Survey and Benchmarking Study again ranks Methodist as one of the most wired hospitals in the United States. The nation's 100 Most Wired hospitals and health systems-those that have invested significantly in health information technology-have lower mortality rates than other hospitals, according to results of a new analysis.
Methodist's primary academic affiliates are top-ranked Weill Cornell Medical College and New York-Presbyterian Hospital. Methodist also has affiliations with the University of Houston, Texas A&M University, and other local institutions. Methodist is an adult teaching site for Baylor College of Medicine.
